About Robert

I pride myself on my empathy and belief in my clients which comes from my earlier career fighting cases in criminal defence work and civil litigation. A lawyer should be an advocate for those needing help, whether it be an individual facing discrimination or a company fighting a vexatious claim. Your lawyer should also be approachable and I hope you find me friendly and practical to deal with.

My team has an excellent mix of expertise in both contentious and commercial matters, and you will find we have had experience of your situation in the past, and how to manage it. 

Away from work, you will usually find me playing or watching sport. I continue to harbour dreams of seeing Scotland in the World Cup final and on a personal note have recently been selected to play for the Scotland 'senior' football team. I enjoy a challenge and along with my Employment team we have previously conquered all 20,000 feet of Mount Kilimanjaro.

I have specialised in employment law since 2006 and have been head of the department since 2009.

Contentious Employment work

I am a Solicitor Advocate which means that I can represent you from the first meeting to the very last appeal. 

I acted in the Johnston v Glasgow City Council case, where 2 foster carers were awarded employment status. 

I regularly litigate Unfair dismissal; Redundancy; Whistle blowing; Discrimination cases in both the Tribunal or Civil Court. If you have been unfairly dismissed or have an issue in any of these cases, please get in touch. 

HR Advice & Support

I'm always available to provide strategic advice for your company or charity on the myriad of issues that can crop up in the complex world of HR. Recent issues I have dealt with include:

  • Tupe: advising on the employment issues in a cross jurisdiction commercial purchase
  • Redundancy: advise on the restructure of a major business in the west of Scotland
  • Restrictive Covenants - major departures of CEOs to rival competitors, and for a number of team moves in the world of finance.
