I qualified as a solicitor in 2017, after completing my traineeship with a city centre firm in Glasgow. I spent the full two years of my traineeship working solely in family law. I then worked as a civil court solicitor at a high street firm in Dumfries and Galloway before starting as family law solicitor with Balfour+Manson in January 2018.
I obtained my law degree and Diploma in Professional Legal Practice from the University of Edinburgh. Prior to my legal studies, I obtained MA(Hons) in Modern European Languages (French and Spanish) from the University of Edinburgh. I did two ERASMUS exchanges, studying in Paris and Malaga. I have professional working competency in both French and Spanish.
Since 2011 I have volunteered at a child contact centre in Edinburgh and was appointed as an organiser in 2018. As an organiser I am responsible for managing the centre with the assistance of a volunteer. My work at the contact centre has provided me with useful practical experience of the difficulties faced by separated families.
I assist Shona Smith, Head of Family Law, with a full range of private family law issues, including separation and divorce.
I also have experience of advising clients on residence and contact matters and protective orders, including interdict and exclusion orders. I have a particular interest in cross-border disputes, jurisdictional issues, financial provision on divorce and child matters, including Hague Convention matters.
I have appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court, sheriff courts in the greater Glasgow area and at Dumfries Sheriff court. I instruct counsel where necessary for actions at the Court of Session.
I enjoy working with clients to find a tailored solution to their family law issue.
