I work in the firm’s Private Client department, having joined Balfour+Manson as a trainee solicitor in August 2013.
I have tutored undergraduate ‘Revenue Law’ at the University of Edinburgh for the past six years and have recently started tutoring on the Private Client course which forms part of the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice (a mandatory course for all those hoping to qualify as a solicitor in Scotland, undertaken after obtaining a law degree).
I am also a mentor for the Lawscot Foundation. The Lawscot Foundation is a charity that helps academically talented students from less advantaged backgrounds in Scotland through their legal education journey.
I advise clients in relation to a varied range of private client matters, including succession planning, the administration of deceased persons’ estates and the law relating to adults with incapacity. I advise on applications for Guardianship and the granting and operation of Powers of Attorney, often working with the firm’s unique Client Welfare Team. I also assist with advising clients in relation to the creation and ongoing administration of trusts, with a particular focus on personal injury trusts.
